Mary Dudley

is the second eldest in a family of 8 children. She grew up in Detroit Michigan where she became active in pro life movement while in grade school at Gesu.  Mary was also a competitive swimmer while attending Mercy High School in Farmington Hills, Michigan. She attended the University of Michigan and  graduated from Michigan State University. She also attended law school. Her lifelong commitment to protecting the unborn by changing the laws and the hearts of our nation led to political activism, public speaking, and participation in crisis pregnancy centers in Michigan, Florida and California.  While living in Florida Mary became a certified catechist and was blessed to be led by an Irish Jesuit through the 40 week Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Mary has led many Catholic study groups and helped organize several retreat programs and women’s conferences. Mary hosted a morning program on Catholic radio for 3 years that placed strong emphasis on education, marriage and the life issues. She is also a cofounder of Arrested By Mercy, a  Divine Mercy/Culture of Life ministry rooted in the truth of the Catholic Church regarding the dignity of the human person and, in particular, the unborn. Mary has been married for over 30 years. She and her husband Doug have three grown children and four grandchildren. Her children attended grade school in Florida and Michigan and they graduated from  U of D Jesuit High School  and Marian High School in the Detroit area, as well as the University of Notre Dame, The Catholic University of America and Sacred Heart Major Seminary.

Friends since first grade at Gesu School in Detroit, we share a love for Jesus Christ and the Catholic Faith. Our fourth grade teacher often had to separate us to counter our tendency for non stop chatter. It seems only natural to combine our lifelong tendency  to talk and the desire to share our faith lives in a new apostolate dedicated to sharing the Gospel through creative use of the arts.  The May Crownings and St. Patrick’s Day play that we wrote and directed in grade school were just the beginning of what has become a truly blessed friendship. While attending Mercy High School in Farmington Hills, Michigan we explored a variety of communication skills - Patty in the theater and musical arts, Mary in public speaking and sports. We were freshman year roommates at University of Michigan where we stumbled occasionally yet managed to maintain our faith. We share a passion for Scripture and prayer as well as an urgent desire  to understand  and share the Church’s teachings.  This has deepened our bonds of friendship,  assisted us in raising faithful children and strengthened our marriages.  Discerning a call to use our talents and gifts in service to Our Lord, we formed Stage of Faith Productions. We  hope to bring a fresh and unique  approach to promoting the Gospel and inspiring others to renew their faith and trust in Jesus Christ.

Our first project was developed by Patty at the request of her parish for a pro life program to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the tragic Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion in the United States. She wrote several pro life songs to accompany the true life testimonies of various figures in the ongoing battle for life. We assembled a cast to present “LifeStories” in a readers theater format. The program has since been presented at several parishes and schools in metro Detroit and Flint.

grew up in Detroit, Michigan. She is the eleventh of 13 children. Patty attended Gesu and Christ the King Schools, followed by Mercy High School in Farmington Hills. She received a Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor,  and married her husband, Bill Ward upon his graduation from the University of Michigan Medical School. Patty worked at Detroit Diesel Allison Division of General Motors Corporation and then moved to Birmingham, Michigan, where she currently resides, to raise their growing family of three children. Her children attended Birmingham public schools, as well as Holy Name, Marian High School, U of D Jesuit High School, Columbia University, Loyola University, Michigan State University and the University of Michigan. Patty has been active in local theatre since high school and a member of Birmingham Village Players for over 25 years. She has sung with the Birmingham Concert Band as well as the Birmingham Straw Hat Band.  Patty currently serves as a cantor at Holy Name Parish in Birmingham as well as a facilitator for their Catholic Scripture Study. She also made the 40 week Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola at Manresa Retreat Center in Bloomfield Hills, MI. In recent years, Patty’s desire to combine her love of performing with her love of the Lord, prompted her to start “Stage of Faith Productions” with lifelong friend Mary Dudley. Her new book    God Calling…Please Pick Up! is her first attempt at describing the many ways that God is at work in her life everyday.

We have also created spiritual/musical programs for retreats based on such treasured devotions as The Seven Sorrows of Mary and The Seven Last Words of Jesus from the Cross.  We combine original music with meditations and scripture. The music and meditations have been recorded on CD and are available for purchase. Patty has also recorded a CD called “Simple Folk,” a collection of her original songs celebrating marriage and family life. We speak on a variety of topics and enjoy bringing Stage of Faith programs to parishes, schools and retreat houses.
